Bishop Mulvey Explains 1.2 million dollar sexual abuse settlement

>>>...Doing all in my power to protect our children and young persons from any type of abuse by church workers has always been a priority. As part of that responsibility, and following the recent settlement of the lawsuit aginst the Diocese of Corpus Christi regarding allegations of sexual abuse made against the late Monsignor Hugh Clarke, I felt the need to reach out and reassure you of my continuing commitment in this area.

The case against Monsignor Clarke was brought by three individuals who alleged sexual abuse more than 35 years ago and was settled by agreed mediation. Monsignor Clarke passed away in 2002. It was alleged thatthe Diocese knew, or should have known about Monsignor Clarke's alleged propensities and should not have allowed him to continue in ministry. Because of these allegations, and to try and bring closure and healing to the three plaintiffs, these claims were settled [[for $1.2 million.]] I ask that you join me in keeping these individuals and their families in your prayers....

Sincerely yours in Christ
Most Rev Wm Michael Mulvey STL DD
Bishop of Corpus Christi<<<<
